The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme is now entering its final month. During August and September 2021 the Government will only contribute 60% of wages for the hours the employee is furloughed, with the employer having to contribute 20%. The latest figures, published at the end of June 2021, show that there are still 1.9 million staff on furlough, and that 11.6 million jobs had been put on furlough at some point since the start of the scheme in March 2020.
