Fees for ET and EAT cases to be implemented on 29 July 2013

In a letter to stakeholders issued this morning, the Deputy Director, Tribunals has confirmed that the date for the implementation of fees into the employment tribunals (ET) and Employment Appeal Tribunal (EAT) will be Monday 29th July 2013.

Subject to the necessary Parliamentary approvals, from this date, all claimants making ET claims or appealing to the EAT will be liable to pay a fee or provide an application for fee remission against that fee. The Deputy Director set out that he will continue to share further updates in the run up to the implementation including a further set of questions and answers on the new business processes and the arrangements for the move to the new fees structure, on the justice.gov.uk website.

The fee system is complex but by way of example, the new system will mean that someone making a claim of unfair dismissal on or after 29 July 2013 will pay £250 to make their application and a further £950 to have a hearing scheduled unless they meet the criteria to apply for a fee remission.
