Government to launch employment review

The Government announced on Monday that they are to launch a review to determine how clear the current employment framework is, what the options are to extend some employment rights to more people and whether there is scope to streamline this complex area of employment law, thus simplifying and clarifying rights for employers and employees.

The review has come about as a consequence of the recent zero hours contracts review (and upcoming legislation) revealing that many people in the UK are on 'worker' rather than 'employee' contracts and that both workers and employers are unsure of their rights and obligations.   As a result, the Government is unable to collect meaningful data and get a complete picture of the overall UK workforce.
