Today is the 25th World Mental Health day and the focus this year is on mental health at work.
Acas have today issued guidance entitled 'Promoting positive mental health in the workplace'. The guidance includes, amongst other things, the suggestion that large organisations should have specific policies on mental health and appoint a senior manager to be a mental health champion.
The Mental Health Foundation have also issued their own guidance, How to support mental health at work and Mental Health England have also put together a workplace wellbeing toolkit.
An estimated 70 million work days are lost due to mental health problems in the UK, costing employers around £2.4 billion per year so although the cost of mental ill health is not just a financial issue, there is a clear business case for investing in good mental health at work.
