In November 2020, despite significant criticism, the Government introduced the Restriction of Public Sector Exit Payments Regulations 2020, which placed a cap of £95,000 on public sector exit payments. On 12 February 2021 the Government announced that the Regulations will be revoked and issued a Treasury Direction suspending them in the meantime. The accompanying guidance encourages employers to make good the difference in the amount received by any former employee had they not been affected by the cap.
