Redundancy (Pregnancy and Family Leave) Bill

The Private Members Bill - Redundancy (Pregnancy and Family Leave) Bill - having gained Government support, completed its passage through the House of Commons (unopposed) on 3 February 2023, and will now be scrutinised by the House of Lords.

Employees on maternity or family leave currently have additional protection if they are potentially redundant as they must be offered any suitable available vacancy, in preference to any other employee.

The Bill will give the Secretary of State the power to extend this protection from the point that the employee tells her employer she is pregnant until six months after her return to work.
