The reintroduction of fees for lodging employment tribunal claims was not ruled out by the Supreme Court’s judgement in Unison v The Lord Chancellor (which ruled that the level of fees of the previous system was a barrier to justice) and yesterday, the Government launched a consultation paper Introducing Fees in the Employment Tribunals and the Employment Appeal Tribunal that proposes a fee of £55. The fee will be a one-off payment with no further fee payable if the case goes to a hearing, and no distinction made between types of claims.
