Increases in NMW announced

Business Secretary, Vince Cable, has today announced he has accepted the recommendations of the Low Pay Commission that the adult rate for the National Minimum Wage should increase by three per cent.

The new hourly rates will be as follows:

Adult workers - £6.50 from £6.31

18 – 20 year olds - £5.13 from £5.03

16 & 17 year olds - £3.79 from £3.72

Apprentices - £2.73 from £2.68

The new rates will apply from 1 October 2014.
