New government advice for the clinically extremely vulnerable

The Government has today issued advice for clinically extremely vulnerable people in line with the new national restrictions which come into force tomorrow (5 November 2020). This group have been strongly advised to work from home and been told that if they cannot work from home, they should not attend work for this period of restrictions. Employees who are required to shield and who cannot work from home may be eligible to receive Statutory Sick Pay (SSP). As before, an employee who is required to shield may be furloughed under the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.

In the press release accompanying the guidance Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England, Doctor Jenny Harries reiterated that the guidance for this group of individuals has always been advisory but strongly urged all those who are clinically extremely vulnerable to take these extra precautions to keep themselves as safe as possible.
